Megan Marino was born in Stamford, CT and grew up in the Philadephia area. Her parents, who say she could sing before she could speak, and read music before the written word, recognized her musical gifts and started her formal study of the piano at age 5. Soon after, she became involved in local musical theater, which led her to study voice. Her high school music teacher Suzanne Dickinger, piano teacher, many caring friends in the Philadelphia theater community, and parents, nurtured and inspired her through her early development. "They set the bar so high. Because they passionately loved music, of all styles, I had no choice but to gladly, and whole-heartedly surrender. I am forever grateful for their time and patience. They taught me to 'think outside the box' and work hard at the things you believe in. I hope that my young students leave their lessons with the same wonderment that I did. . . . . . . and still do."
Ms. Marino performs regularly as a member of the Central City Opera Ensemble and has sung with Aspen Opera Theater Center, Virginia Arts Festival, PORT Opera, Ruling Thumb Theater Company, Boulder International Fringe Festival and the Bostonian Opera & Concert Ensemble. This summer she made her debut with Des Moines Metro Opera as a James Collier Apprentice Artist.
She placed second at the 2008 Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition, was a 2009 finalist at the Colorado/Wyoming Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was a Finalist in the Kurt Weill Foundation's Lotte Lenya Competition in April 2009.
Recent opera credits include: Phoebe, Yeomen of the Guard, Mrs. Patrick DeRocher, Dead Man Walking, Lucretia, The Rape of Lucretia, Hänsel, Hänsel und Gretel and the Dog, the Cunning Little Vixen.
Recent musical theater credits include: Anita, West Side Story, Woman 2, Songs for a New World, Lulu/2 Ladies, Cabaret and created the role of Lilith in CLEAVE, a new musical.
Ms. Marino holds a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Colorado, studying voice with mezzo-soprano, Margaret Lattimore and received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Maine, studying voice with soprano, Ellen Chickering, and piano with Robert Glover (where she spent the first 2 years of her degree studying jazz voice and piano).
She resides in Boulder, CO. When not performing, she teaches voice at the University of Colorado, Boulder through continuing education, The Lesson Studio (teaching piano as well as voice), and she maintains a small private voice studio. She currently studies with Ms. Lattimore and coaches with pianist Michael Tilley.
